New for 2009

There are improvements and additions planned for 2009.
Improvements are...

• A set of Tubular Bells has been mounted outside the chamber.
• The Melotone speaker will be mounted in view outside the chambers.

We are also negotiating the purchase of a 32' Diaphone rank. This will be added to the already fitted 16' Diaphone.

Melotone Speaker
The Melotone is an electronic unit. Sound reproduction is by a vintage Valve amplifier driving a horn loudspeaker. Traditionally they were mounted outside the chambers or sometimes projecting from the front of a chamber. Sound volume being controlled by a resistive device connected to one of the swell pedals.

Our unit's speaker, being inside the chamber is set at maximum volume, control of sound level is by the opening and closing of the swell shutters.
We plan to move the horn outside the chamber. This will improve the sound projection and tone as well as being an interesting visual feature.

It will be mounted on top of the chambers under the roof beams. An electronic volume control has been constructed and will be connected to the Solo swell pedal.

Barn Lighting System
You will notice that a new modern stage lighting system has been installed, first used at the Robert Wolfe concert. A new sound system has also been installed.

These latter additions have been funded by the Tabor family, owners of the Barn and will be available to anyone that may hire the Barn. Click to contact Oliver Tabor.

32' Diaphone
A further planned addition will be a 32' Diaphone. This will be an extension to the 16' Diaphone already added in 2008. These ranks are rare and we are presently in negotiations to obtain one.
