Tibia Polyphonic Bass Relocation.

The Polyphonic Tibia is a set of 6 large wooden pipes. Each pipe can sound two notes of different pitch so can produce 12 notes at 16' pitch. These complete the bottom end of the Tibia rank which is in the upper chamber.

The Polyphone pipes were installed in the lower chamber when the organ arrived at the Barn because like the Tuba they are too tall for the upper chamber. It was decided that it is time to relocate the Polyphone to the upper chamber where it belongs. To solve the limited headroom problem the rank will be mounted on its side.

The chest was removed to the workshop and refurbished. This involved dismantling, releathering the pallet motors, cleaning and adjusting the magnets and varnishing the case.

A platform was constructed to support the wooden pipes and chest. It is important that the platform holds the chest and pipes firmly to maintain airtight contact.

Wind trunking and action wiring has been re-routed. The opportunity has been taken to releather the tuning stoppers and internal pallets have been inspected.

Testing has shown a marked increase in sound projection into the hall and a better balance on the pedal.
